Successful
in molecular diagnostics" from the start"
Professor Höppner worked for many years on basic research in the
field of endocrinology and metabolism at Hamburg University. In 1993
he left the academic environment to use his medical knowledge for commercial
and business application. He established a department for molecular diagnostics
at the office of Leidenberger, Weise and Partner. This department, led
by Prof. Höppner, was the first commercial laboratory in Germany
which specialized in innovative molecular biological diagnostics. Prof.
Höppner directed a staff of 10 employees and was responsible for
the expansion, realization and marketing of the test portfolio. He participated
in scientific conferences and congresses on molecular diagnostic issues.
Commitment in all
fields of life science
Prof. Höppner supported the new interdiciplinary course of studies
of biochemistry/molecular biology at Hamburg University. He is the founder
and leader of the Institute for Supporting Clinical and Experimental
Molecular Endocrinology (Verein zur Förderung der Klinischen und
Experimentellen Molekularen Endokrinologie – keme e.V). He participated
in the foundation of the “molecular and cellular endocrinology” section
at the German Society for Endocrinology and also directed the Department
of Molecular Diagnostics at the Institute for Hormone and Fertility Research
at Hamburg University.
